Free timer overlay videos for creators, teachers, and streamers
Timer Overlay Recorder is a browser-based tool that generates clean, readable countdown and count up timer videos you can layer on top of other footage. Pick a digital style, tweak colors and glow, choose a transparent or solid background, add subtle animation, then record an export-ready WebM video overlay. This is useful when you need a timer that looks consistent across projects, with no app installs and no complicated templates.
How to generate a countdown or count up overlay video
1) Pick your timer look
Choose a style (7-segment, flip, neon outline, and more). Then set font weight, color, glow, and animation. Small motion cues can make the timer feel more “alive” without distracting from your content.
2) Choose format and timing
Select MM:SS or MM:SS.CC, then configure Start at and Duration. For countdowns, you can stop at zero or keep going past it depending on your workflow.
3) Set resolution and FPS
Export sizes like 1920×1080, 1080×1920 for vertical, or 1080×1080 for square. Match FPS to your project so the overlay feels smooth and consistent with your footage.
4) Record and download
Use Record to create a WebM file. If you select a transparent background, the output can be layered over video in many editors. If your editor requires MP4, convert the WebM afterward.

Practical tips for clean overlays
- Transparent overlays: Use Transparent background when you plan to layer the timer on top of footage.
- Legibility: Increase glow slightly for dark footage, reduce glow for light footage to avoid blur.
- End cues: For countdowns, set a short flash in the last 3 seconds to improve viewer awareness.
- Match your platform: Use 1080×1920 for Shorts and Reels, 1920×1080 for YouTube and streams.
- Speed ramp: Speed ramp is useful for montage edits when you want time to “accelerate” at a defined moment.
